Mike grew up in Chicago, IL, and after high school moved to Urbana-Champaign to attend the University of Illinois. He graduated from U of I with a Bachelors in Material Science Engineering in 1998. Mike worked in the aluminum manufacturing industry in Southern Indiana for approximately 3 years. He eventually left the industry and decided to go back to school to change careers. After a year of taking remaining prerequisites, Mike moved to South Florida to attend the University of Miami. During his schooling, Mike had the opportunity to intern with outpatient clinics as well as various locations within the VA system. He eventually fell in love with the orthopedic setting. After graduating in 2009 with his doctorate in physical therapy, Mike and his wife moved to Melbourne, FL (1 hour east of Orlando) to practice in an outpatient setting.

Mike and his wife recently moved to Vegas in August of 2011. He and his wife enjoy a wide variety of activities outside of work, including hiking, watching shows, watching sports, exercising, and most importantly salsa/Latin dancing.

Thomas Neumann at ESPN.com wrote a great article about the Sin City Blackjacks.

When a new sports franchise is born, the owners must carefully consider the name of the team.

After all, the entire identity of the organization will be built upon that moniker. A good name doesn’t guarantee success, but a bad one can start a team down the road to failure. With that in mind, a minor league football team in Las Vegas is doubling down on the gambling culture of its home base with open arms.

The Sin City Blackjacks.

“The ownership wanted to gear the name toward the city itself,” Blackjacks general manager and head coach Anthony Bartley said. “They really wanted something that would truly stand out. Let’s face it — nearly everybody here in Vegas gambles. One of the games of choice is blackjack. And Vegas is already known as Sin City. So let’s just take the themes that are already in place, put them together and make it happen.”
